Apologies

I’m so sorry for the lack of posts! I’m going to try to start posting short posts more often instead of writing long posts infrequently. We’ll see if I can do it! My excuse, as always, is that we’ve been so busy…and exhausted.

Now that I’m back at work full time, I’m trying to establish some kind of daily routine. Every night, I get Griffin’s bag packed and loaded into the car so I don’t forget it when I’m rushing out the door the next morning. To cut down on my morning prep time, I also pick out my clothes the night before. I KNOW! I haven’t down THAT since elementary school! The only things I can’t pack the night before are the expressed milk and my breast pump. But I haven’t yet forgotten those (knock wood)!

G usually wakes up just as I’m finishing breakfast. I hate waking him up so if he isn’t awake when I’m done eating, I open up his bedroom door. The sounds of the dogs scuffling and the tv usually wake him up a little more gradually.

So far, everything is going well. I’ve only been extremely late one day so far and I can partly blame that on the weather. Some days it’s a challenge for me to keep my eyes open. The drive is such a straight shot it’s easy to start daydreaming.

G and my mom have their own routine. Some of the highlights:

  • The morning bath. Griffin LOVES baths. He bathes in his infant tub here which is a little more restricting than the basin mom bathes him in. The basin allows more room for toys which he likes to splash around.
  • Feeding time, of course.
  • Naps–some longer than the others.
  • Afternoon phone call to Papa. Mom calls my Dad in Guam every afternoon. If G is awake and “in the mood,” she holds the phone to his ear so my Dad can talk to him. I saw them do it today. It’s very cute.
  • Playtime with Mama. Mom loves singing and playing with the kiddo. Her version of the classic kids songs are quite interesting. =)

I’m so glad my mom is hear to be with Griffin. It makes being away from him easier. I’m also happy that my boy gets to spend precious time with his Lola.

The part of the back to work routine I’m horrible at is going to bed early! No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to get to bed as early as I’d like. Time just seems to go by so much quicker when I’m at home than when I’m at work. =)

On that note, I need to hop in the shower and start pretending to get ready for bed. I’ll be back to update again soon. I hope you keep reading!

Hello 3 months!

Griffin celebrated his almost 3 months in a way that made his daddy and mommy very proud: He attended his very first Jimmy Buffett tailgate party! Griffin was truly a little Parakeet in his Hawaiian shirt (courtesy of the Westbrooks, longtime Evans family friends) and lei (thank you, Aunt Lindsay!). He also enjoyed being passed around to his various “aunties” and “uncles.” Scott was particularly happy to have Griffin at Buffett. As Jimmy B. gets closer to retiring we always wonder if this year will be the last show in Dallas. Scott was so thrilled that his son got to experience the Buffett festivities. If Buffett does come back next year, it may be a little more challenging since Griffin will be up and running all over the place!

Buffett also brought a visit from one of my dearest friends, Elle! We were so happy to have Auntie Elle stay with us. Griffin expressed this by throwing up all over her–his ultimate expression of affection. 🙂

At 3 months, Griffin has discovered his hands. They seem to fascinate him. I think he realizes that he can control them too. The other day, as he was laying in his gymini, I swear I caught him batting at one of the dangling toys! He did it several times and I wonder if it was intentional or just a coincidence. He continues to get longer and longer. He seems to really love it when he’s lying down and we talk to him. When we do that he just laughs and talks back and laughs and laughs. He’s a character, that little guy of mine.

Griffin is the Dilly-O

Griffin is a co-star! Scott used him as a prop on a segment of his weekly show, the Dilly-O. Griffin was asleep for the first take. Unfortunately, he was crying for the take Scott ending up using. I think the hot lights and the sudden movement woke him up and he was not happy about that. Check out the rest of the Dilly-Os if you have time. Scott works really hard on it and it shows. It helps that the host, Marci, is awesome as well. =)

Two months already?

I'm two months old!

I'm two months old!

Griffin had his 2 month checkup on March 25th. I still can’t believe he’s in the world! About a year ago we had just finished another visit to Europe and were getting ready for the Jimmy Buffett concert. This year we have a beautiful baby boy! I never knew it was possible to have so many moments so wondrous and joyous that they all blur together.

At his checkup Griffin weighed in at 11.6 ounces, was 23 1/2 inches long, and had a head that was 15.3 inches roundish. =) He did very well on his physical exam and the doctor said he’s growing very nicely. He has a little bit of eczema on his elbows but our doc wasn’t terribly worried. I think he gets the eczema from Daddy but you didn’t hear that from me.

Griff is mostly sleeping through the night now. We can usually lay him down at about 10pm or so and he’ll sleep until about 7:30am. Of course, right after I tell people this he usually has a night when it seems as if he’ll never settle down so I should probably quit jinxing myself. =)

It’s hard to predict when he’ll decide to wake up before 7:30 am which is making it hard for me to settle into a solid pumping schedule. If he goes to bed early enough, I usually wake up at about 5am and pump for 10 minutes on one side and 5 minutes on the other. The past two days I’ve been able to get about 5 ounces which I think is pretty good. His morning schedule is still pretty unpredictable so my best bet of pumping is that early morning time. I’m hoping that what I pump is enough to work with when I first start back.

Our little boy has the most infectious smile! I love it when he giggles and laughs and grins. Every time he lights up I can’t help but crack up. He is such a character!

These last two months have been so unbelievable. I’m loving every minute of it!
